I am a PGCE-qualified teacher of A Level and GCSE English Literature and Language, with 20 years of experience in the classroom and both a Masters and PhD in Education. I currently teach for one of London’s leading 6th form colleges (London Academy of Excellence Tottenham), alongside delivering Teacher Training at Goldsmiths University, supporting new English teachers to develop best practice in the classroom.

I also greatly enjoy working with young people 1-1 to support their growth, and have many positive private tuition experiences under my belt, seeing my students progress by at least one grade in a short period of time.

I am passionate about the power of English to inspire critical thinking, empathy and creativity. After years of teaching in a variety of settings, I firmly believe that anyone can reach their potential in and enjoyment of English - given the right support, encouragement and tools to navigate the requirements of the exam.

Availability: I am available most evenings and weekend mornings, and more intensively during the school holidays and half terms. I am based in North London Monday -
Wednesday evenings, and in Surrey Thursday evening + Saturday & Sunday mornings. I am happy to tutor online or face to face, depending on location.

Experience: I have taught A Level and GCSE English Literature and Language for 20 years in London schools and colleges, with a track record of internally and Ofsted-rated outstanding lessons, and a high proportion of B-A* grades for A Level Literature, and students meeting or exceeding their target grade at GCSE.

I am currently English lead at London Academy of Excellence Tottenham`s Chrysalis East programme, designing academic interventions to raise attainment in four Haringey secondary schools. This work focuses on supporting students gaining L7 - 9 in their GCSEs. I also taught GCSE-retake at Haringey Sixth Form College for 10 years, supporting students to achieve Grade C+ / Level 4+ in their GCSE English.

Alongside this I have enjoyed private tutoring experiences for GCSE and A Level exam prep, with my tutees always progressing at least one grade over a short period of time.

As a backdrop to my work with young people, about which I am passionate, I also deliver English Teacher Training at Goldsmiths University. I feel privileged to support new teachers in developing excellent classroom practice - and indeed, to learn from them!
