I am a fully qualified Science teacher with QTS, specialising in Biology. I teach GCSE Biology and Chemistry and A-level Biology and Chemistry, and enjoy supporting students across a wide range of abilities and academic goals.

I studied Biomaterials Science at the University of Birmingham before completing a Master’s degree in Infection and Immunity at the University of Leicester, where I was awarded the prize for Best Student. I later completed my PGCE at the University of Warwick, specialising in Science education, and undertook Master’s-level research exploring misconceptions in Science and how these can affect students’ understanding and progress.

I am particularly interested in helping students develop a genuine understanding of Science rather than relying solely on memorisation. I aim to provide a supportive and intellectually stimulating environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, developing their confidence and working towards their full academic potential.

Experience: I have over 18 years of tutoring experience, both face-to-face and online, alongside more than 10 years of teaching experience in schools and colleges across the West Midlands. During my teaching career, I have worked with GCSE, BTEC and A-level students across the OCR, AQA and Edexcel specifications.

I have also worked as Head of Biology, with responsibility for curriculum planning, assessment and supporting students across a wide range of abilities. As part of my leadership role, I coordinated and delivered study-skills sessions focusing on effective revision, note-taking and memory techniques. I have also been monitored by OCR in relation to the A-level Practical Endorsement and received positive feedback on my practice.

My approach to tutoring is highly individualised. I identify each student`s strengths, gaps in knowledge, misconceptions and areas of difficulty and tailor lessons accordingly.
I recognise that many students spend considerable amounts of time revising but still struggle to achieve the marks they are capable of in examinations. For this reason, I place a strong emphasis on helping students understand how to apply their knowledge effectively. This includes interpreting questions accurately, recognising command words, structuring answers clearly and identifying the key scientific points required by the examination board.

I also teach effective revision, memory and retrieval strategies to help students retain and recall information more successfully. My aim is to give students the skills and confidence to become increasingly independent and reflective learners.

Throughout my teaching and tutoring career, I have helped students strengthen their subject knowledge, improve their examination performance and achieve or exceed their target grades.
