Information about Imogen

Hello,

My name is Imogen and I absolutely love maths! From an early age I was (and still am) fascinated with how the world around us and beyond works and am always keen to find out more. For my twelfth birthday I was delighted to receive a complete atlas of the universe by astronomer Sir Patrick Moore. I loved learning and sharing what I had discovered with those around me. I am incredibly fortunate to have experienced first hand just how positive an impact a supportive teacher makes on an individual and I will always be grateful for their inspiration.

My passion for maths was ignited by my A Level maths teacher and it was then that I knew that I wanted to become a teacher. I hold a MMath Honours degree in Mathematics and as a qualified maths teacher I have taught in schools as well as on a one to one basis. My experience lies with teaching maths and the sciences and I am patient and approachable whilst being flexible and sensitive to the requirements of each individual student. The passion I have for my subjects carries into my teaching, I appreciate that maths in particular can be daunting and so I thoroughly enjoy delivering my sessions in a way that shows students how the concepts apply to the world around them whilst making them engaging.

In working one to one with students, I have helped them to achieve the grades required to attain their university places. In the cases of younger students, their confidence has grown and performance in class and tests has improved notably. Over the years I have had the privilege of working with adult students who are changing careers or have decided to do their GCSEs or A Levels again

I am here to help with the following:
- Guidance with topics/areas of concern.
- Reviewing and reinforcing material/examples covered in class.
- Support with homework problems by considering similar examples.
- Exam preparation/developing and improving exam technique.
- Review and guidance with exam style questions/past exam papers.
- Extra curricular, e.g a student would like to gain a head start on more challenging material or enjoys
the subject so much that they are looking for an enjoyable challenge / extension of the curriculum.
- Module specific tuition: University / Higher Education learners who are looking for support with maths
related content of their chosen course.

Group Sessions:
If you are considering having tuition in a group session, I also offer group tuition for 2-5 students. Please feel free to reach out to me for further information.

Holiday Sessions:
I offer tuition over the holidays in order to offer support with the following:
- Review of content covered so far
- Preparation for Year 7, Year 11 or transition into A Level maths
- Revision workshops in the run up to exams to cover key content such as calculations in chemistry,
using the physics equation sheet and frequently covered concepts in maths along with past paper
questions.
To discuss arrangements and a bespoke approach please feel free to send me a message.

My priority is to do the absolute best I can to help all of my students achieve their maximum potential whilst also supporting their enjoyment for learning. For a more relaxed environment for the student I travel to their home to deliver the tuition. In cases where it is preferred that tuition takes place outside of the home, I am happy to arrange a mutually convenient point of contact e.g a library.

Easter Holidays
Summer Holidays

I do not work during the Christmas holidays. Lessons conclude on the Saturday of the final week of the autumn term and resume on the first Monday of the spring term.

I check my personal email and Tutorhunt account daily and endeavour to reply to enquiries on the day that I receive them.

I ensure that my availability is kept up to date on my online calendar. If you have any questions please feel free to send me an enquiry and I will be glad to help wherever I can. Holiday sessions are subject to availability and, whilst I will always do my best to accommodate students, I advise that arrangements are made in advance to avoid disappointment.

I kindly ask that cancellations are made by 7pm two days prior to the scheduled lesson. For example students having a Wednesday lesson will need to have contacted me to cancel by 7pm Monday. This is to allow me the opportunity to offer the slot to another student for that week. Cancellations made later than that stipulated above will be charged the hourly rate.

Willing to travel: 3 miles

Experience: 2009-2011: Whilst in the sixth form I ran a weekly lunchtime maths club for students in the year groups below my own. Here I would teach small groups of students, offering guidance with homework problems and material presented to them in class. I soon began teaching small groups of students in my spare time outside of attending class.

2010-2011 : Worked as a personal tutor teaching KS3-GCSE maths and science

2012 - 2015: Working as a personal tutor offering tuition for maths and the sciences in the realm of KS3 - A Level.

2015 - present: Working full time as a personal tutor teaching a variety of age ranges and abilities including home schooled students, adult learners and degree level. Worked as an Academic Maths Mentor at Hylands School through the Teach First Academic Mentoring to help students catch up with the learning lost due to covid lockdowns.
Schools worked in:
Hylands School
Southend High School for Girls
Anglo European School

Now that I have come out of mainstream education, I work with the local authority teaching students who do not attend school for a variety of reasons.
