Information about Jarvis

Experienced tutor, Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society, Fellow of the Institute of Physics, Director of the Planetarium for the Observatory at Herstmonceux. I have degrees and postgraduate degrees in Education, Computer Science, Physics and Astrophysics from Birmingham University and the University of Brighton. My education degree is a PGCE with a specialism in secondary science. At the Observatory Science Centre I run their planetarium, provide lecture courses and outreach programmes for schools across the South East of Britain.

Since my first degrees I have worked in research in the University of Birmingham, commercial computing, teaching and now at the Observatory Science Centre at Herstmonceux.

I offering individual and small group tutoring, tailoring the sessions to reflect individuals and curriculum. I have a great deal of experience with autism and other special needs and have been complimented on my ability to engage reluctant students. I often find that exam technique and confidence are a stumbling block to good grades therefore plan each students sessions to address their needs.

I use combinations of tutorials designed to match the students interests to engage combined with past papers to increase confidence. No two students are ever the same so no two tutorials should ever be the same; each tutorial is planned using a mixture of curriculum requirements, achievements from previous tutorial and the student`s interests.

Availability: I am available all days and weekends including evenings

I have taught all science discipline up to GCSE and Physics up to A level. I have also taught adult groups in specialist courses at the Observatory.

The initial contact was very positive. The tutor seemed to have an idea of teaching a young person with SEN. Unfortunately he was late for our first session by 30 minuted with no apology or excuse. The 2nd session was cancelled by him and he was a no show for the 3rd. Really unimpressed. For someone who seemed to understand the needs of a young person with SEN, he certainly didn`t show it.
