Information about Alissa
I currently work full time as Education Coordinator the Royal Society of Chemistry, which involves supporting teachers to improve their students` engagement and progress in chemistry.
Before joining the RSC, I was a teacher of Science and Chemistry at a comprehensive school, where I taught across the full age (11-18) and ability range. Prior to this, I obtained my PGCE in Science and Chemistry from the University of York and graduated with a Master`s degree in Chemistry from the University of Warwick.
Over the past 8 years, I have built up a portfolio of various teaching experiences working with children in small groups or one-to-one in various roles.
During my time working as a tutor, I have worked with students one-on-one and in small groups to help them grasp the science they were expected to learn in their lesson. I enjoy the challenge of coming up with a novel way to make complex ideas accessible and interesting. I also have experience working with high ability students, whom I worked with after school on various A-level Chemistry topics. I also feel this experience would be transferable to high-achieving GCSE pupils who may need that extra push to obtain the top grade that they`re capable of achieving.
I would describe my teaching style as being: accessible, patient, and engaging. I don`t believe in a one size fits all teaching style, so each pupil will be individually catered for in terms of depth and speed.
Availability: I am available on week night evenings, and weekends
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: To date, I have had numerous experiences of working with both struggling pupils and high-achievers both one-on-one and also in small groups.

Alissa was very good at helping with exactly what my daughter needed rather than grinding through a standard format. She was punctual and flexible, so very useful.
