Hello, my name is Paula, and I am a qualified English teacher with over seventeen years of experience. I have a lifelong passion for English and reading, and I genuinely enjoy sharing my knowledge and enthusiasm with students of all ages and abilities: from primary to adult learners.

I can offer personalised English tuition either online (making it a more flexible option for students) or face to face tuition around the Todmorden, Lancashire area and within a ten-mile radius. I hold a current DBS and provide lessons at reasonable rates and tailored to each student`s specific needs. I have extensive experience teaching students from diverse backgrounds and with varying abilities.

I specialise in GCSE Language and Literature, where I can provide key exam techniques and strategies to prepare for different exam boards. As a former examiner for the AQA board, I have a strong understanding of the requirements for successfully passing these exams. I am also familiar with the mark schemes and format of all the English exam boards. I aim to instil in my students the same passion and enthusiasm that I feel for the subject.

Furthermore, I have a lot of experience teaching and tutoring students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). My calm and nurturing approach helps engage students, enabling them to understand the subject, focus on key areas for improvement, and address any weaknesses. I am friendly and supportive, dedicated to building students` confidence and understanding of English so they can achieve their full potential.

I aim to make my tutoring sessions both a fun and rewarding experience, where they gain confidence and achieve success. I have a student-centred approach, where learning is made enjoyable as well as working towards a steady progression of improvement.

Availability: weekdays and evenings.

Availability: Monday to Friday 9am to 4pm - I am available for English catch up sessions over the holidays. These will enable the student to maintain momentum over the holidays, so they are ready and well prepared for school in September.

Monday to Friday 4pm to 6pm for evening tutoring sessions.

Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm for home-schooled children.

Experience: I previously worked as an English teacher for over 17 years, working with high school students from year 7 to year 13 (11 to 18 year olds). I have a strong understanding of the National Curriculum requirements for Key Stage 3, 4 and A level. I have an excellent understanding of AQA GCSE English Language and Literature, as well as the examinations for other boards..
