Oxford History graduate with 30+ years teaching experience and 8 years tutoring experience. Having enjoyed many years teaching students in School, where my lessons were consistently graded outstanding by Ofsted, I now offer tutoring and love to share my passion for History and help students to develop their enthusiasm and skills in the study of History.

I offer both online and face to face tutoring. I am based in St. Albans and am able to travel within the surrounding area, normally tutoring at the student`s own home.

I offer A Level and GCSE History tuition.

Availability: I am available weekdays and weekends.

I believe in matching tutoring sessions precisely to the individual needs of the student. In some cases this involves revising and clarifying subject content. In other cases, where subject content is securely understood, the focus is on exam technique, specifically essay writing, meeting assessment objectives and making extensive use of exemplar material.

My tutor sessions are always interactive and involve the student engaging through discussion and questioning. I regard it as one of my responsibilities to explore as wide a range of educational resources as possible, including alternative text books, historical interpretations, DVDs and original source material. I support A level students in their preparation for coursework

Experience: I have taught History for over 30 years in Secondary School for GSCE, A Level and Oxbridge Entrance. I taught a range of ability across a wide variety of historical periods as required in the exam syllabuses.

Since retiring from mainstream school I have spent 8 years tutoring one to one, mostly for A Level History candidates, anxious to achieve required grades for University entrance. I also have tutored students for their GCSE study.
