Information about Billyana
I am a language teacher, I also work as a screenwriter and as editor for Orange Books Publishing House.
I`m currently a student in the Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia`s BA Bulgarian Philology program. As a project for my bachelor`s thesis, I am working on developing an entirely new system for teaching the so called "aspect of the verb" - one of the maybe most challenging portions of Bulgarian grammar.
I`ve been teaching Bulgarian professionally for more than two years now, having worked with dozens of students from all over the world.
As a writer, I have a number of publications in Bulgarian literary magazines. Three of my theatre pieces have been staged since 2014, and less than a month ago my first book, "The Year of March" came out. I am currently working on two projects for television. When possible, I am trying to use my literary knowledge while teaching, and give students a perspective on Bulgarian culture (including street culture, which I think is essential for understanding a language), history and art.
Availability: My availability changes with time, but we can easily figure out a schedule that works for both of us!
Willing to travel: 2 miles
Experience: I am a former language teacher at "Edno" School in Sofia, where I worked from October 2019 until December 2021. Since then I`ve been practicing as a freelance teacher.
During my practice, I`ve had the chance to work with students from over 25 different countries - both adults and teenagers. I am well aware of the very different teaching strategies I have to take on, in order to help people with diverse language backgrounds find their own path towards speaking Bulgarian.
I`ve successfully prepared a number of foreigners with Bulgarian ancestry for the mandatory exam, developed by the Ministry of Education and Science, which they need to take in order to enrol in a Bulgarian university.
As a writer, I have worked with teenagers showing interest in literature, and this summer I will be teaching classes as a part of a mentorship program, helping young people learn how to organize and host a literary event.
