Information about Bill
This year I am trying to cut down on tutoring and I already have a couple of students so I will take on no more for the moment, but I will remove this notice if I have more time in future.
I am a recently retired biology teacher with over 30 years experience teaching biology at all levels up to Advanced Higher. Since retiring I have tutored students at every level from N4 to Advanced Higher.
I have an excellent academic knowledge of all areas of biology but in my teaching I like to take time to find out what level of understanding my students start with so I can discuss the subject on their terms. If I can start from here and especially clear up any areas of misunderstanding by encouraging students to discuss what they know and understand this gives us the confidence to move on.
I recognise the value of using past paper questions to practice high scoring answers but it is also important for students to feel the subject as a whole `makes sense` and is interesting and relevant, not just a chore, so I try to stimulate their curiosity.
Availability: Most evenings
Willing to travel: 15 miles
Experience: Over 30 years teaching all levels of biology up to Advanced Higher.
Private tuition of students at all levels including recently N4 and N5.
I remain in touch with former colleagues who are still teaching so I am fully aware of the new Higher courses stsrting this year.
