Information about Andrew
My lessons are designed to build confidence in mathematics, drawing on my experience teaching key stages 3 and 4 (ages 11-16) in large secondary schools. This may start from filling in the gaps in basic knowledge or providing an opportunity to practise and embed weaker topics, up to challenging questions to develop a wider understanding of mathematics and its structure.
Before teaching, my background was in finance, so I like to draw upon real-life examples wherever possible to show the relevance of mathematical skills. However, mathematics is also about learning general strategies for problem-solving and even the most abstract problems should be approached in this positive way, turning I dont understand into What do I know? and I cant do this into What can I do?
For adult learners, I build confidence in the subject with a relaxed and informal structure geared to your specific areas for improvement. where necessary I create examples tailored to your interests and experience.
With a first-class honours degree in mathematics I bring a life-long passion and enthusiasm for the subject and a will to pass that enthusiasm to a new generation of students. My style of teaching is focused, but relaxed and unpressured, allowing students to progress at a pace suited to them. I have a PGCE in secondary education and up-to-date DBS.
Availability: I am free most week evenings for regular appointments but can usually accommodate other times. I am happy to work on-line or provide tuition at my home in West Hampshire..
Willing to travel: Home Only
Experience: PGCE in secondary maths. Teaching years 7 to 11 in different school environments.

Professional tutor with good strengths and enthusiastic attitude. Andrew is a great tutor and very friendly. I noticed improvement in my son`s maths and he is progressing well. I highly recommend.
Andrew is a fantastic teacher and I`m delighted I found him. I`m an adult learner and I`ve always felt my maths was weak and something I wanted to improve. But where to start? How do you put a curriculum together? Andrew started off by assessing my level and has developed a curriculum based on my objectives. His lessons are comprehensive, engaging and challenging exactly what I was looking for! Andrew has a wealth of knowledge both from his teaching experience and significant business acumen from his working life as an accountant. Plus hes enthusiastic and a pleasure to work with. I couldnt recommend Andrew more!
Mr Andrew is very able and experienced teacher. His approach allowed my son to settle immediately and was taken forward from his level. We are extremely satisfied.
