Information about Tom

I am a medical student currently living in Norwich. I have spent much of my life learning about life sciences with a particular interest in organic chemistry and human physiology. I have a very broad skill-set in that I have not only studied biochemistry at degree-level and attained the top grade, but I have spent a year working in research in the physical chemistry of living organisms. I am now studying medicine and have therefore expanded my knowledge to human anatomy and advanced human physiology. I believe that context is very important and therefore I hope to be on-hand to explain ideas in a broader context (e.g. “what’s the point of learning this?”, I can provide the answer). I also try to encourage my students to develop their own ways of learning so between sessions I will be requesting some sort of short homework after which I will be interested in ‘how’ they learnt the information. Learning is an active process and a tutor cannot force their student to remember things. However, they can teach them how to learn and they will use these skills in their academic futures (I still use the techniques I picked up during A-level). I also want to make it clear that I am always happy to help and if a student has a question then they should pop it in an email to me any time.

Availability: I am available at all times except for Thursday and Saturday evenings for the next two months.

Willing to travel: 10 miles

Experience: I tutored students for a year after the completion of my degree studies, both privately and at university whilst conducting experiments at the research park. Here I often had to arrange presentations which ranged in content from simple biology to the latest theories in molecular biology and physical biochemistry. I also have experience in teaching A-level biology to students where I would use moving presentations to explain principles in the current syllabus.
