Information about Josh

Oxford University - First Class Degree & final-stage PhD student.

I am fun-loving, down to earth person who successfully got into Oxford at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. I therefore know what it takes to achieve academic success and I will help you do the same.

I am currently a final-stage PhD Student in Bacterial Evolution & Genetics at the University of Oxford. In 2018, I graduated from my Bachelor`s degree also from the University of Oxford with 1st Class Honours in Biological Sciences. Before this, I achieved all A*`s and A`s at GCSE and A-level.

My love of science is broad and all-encompassing, meaning I can offer high quality tutoring in a range of different scientific areas. I particularly specialise in biology and chemistry, even more specifically I research evolution, microbiology, and genetics. Having first-hand experience of the Oxford tutorial system has been invaluable. It has taught me invaluable critical thinking skills that are applicable to all levels of education.

I can provide academic support and guidance for any individuals from KS3 to undergraduate level. During the tutoring session we will discuss what areas you would most like to improve on. From there, I will ensure that you maximise your academic potential and will assist your learning in the ways you find most effective. I will also teach you broad learning principles that I have found to be extremely helpful in succeeding in all subject areas. My help and support is suitable for anyone, including both students struggling with course content and students aiming to achieve the highest grades.

Please let me know if you have any questions! I`m always happy to help.

Many thanks!

Availability: My availability is flexible. I am usually free on weekday afternoons/evenings and weekends, but I can also do other times.

Willing to travel: 3 miles

Experience: Although I am new to Tutor Hunt, I am not new to tutoring. I have previous tutoring experience of Biology and Chemistry at both A-level and GCSE levels for a number of different UK exam boards, including WJEC, AQA, and OCR.

I also tutor undergraduates on the University of Oxford Biological Sciences course. Tutoring involves setting and marking a scientific essay, holding a `tutorial` to provide constructive essay feedback, and teaching the student(s) about the wider subject area. I have also run Oxbridge mock interviews for a number of years for subjects including: Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Medicine. Additionally, I have given several research presentations at international science conferences and was invited back to my school to give a presentation on exam & revision techniques.

Throughout my education, I have also been heavily involved in promoting access to university, particularly for students from disadvantaged backgrounds. For example, I was a Student Ambassador for 3-years at Jesus College, Oxford and am currently the Graduate Access & Outreach Officer at St Hugh`s College, Oxford. These roles included giving guided tours to students and teachers, conducting mock interviews, visiting schools to encourage potential Oxford applicants, and being filmed for access-related videos.
