20+ years as a qualified teacher both in the UK and internationally. I teach Chemistry and Biology A Level and IBDP and all sciences at (I)GCSE level and for Key Stage 3.
I am experienced working with students who have English as a second, or even third, language. I am CELTA qualified and, in addition, have a qualification based on teaching EFL students within the mainstream classroom.
I push my students to make their own links between topics through careful questioning techniques and the use of increasingly more complex examples. I expect students to build on their previous knowledge, rather than each topic being isolated. This allows students to increase their deeper understanding and to retain knowledge which they can then apply when presented with novel situations.
