Information about Anastasia

Hello, I`m a Japanese and French tutor who has lived, worked, and studied in both countries.

I studied languages at Warwick university, graduating with top marks, especially in Japanese where I received a 87 for my oral exam and a 78 for my dissertation written in Japanese.

Having learnt French and Japanese as a native English speaker, I understand the difficulties when it comes to understanding and conquering these two languages, particularly when it comes to wrapping one`s head around grammar. Thanks to this, I am adept in packaging the grammar and intricacies of these languages to English-speakers in an easy-to-understand way.

Whether you need a tutor who is willing to focus more on practical conversation, or a tutor who will guide you in your exam preparation, I`m here to help and work with you.

Feel free to drop me a message!

The textbooks I usually work with for Japanese:
- Genki, Minna no Nihongo
- Japanese for Busy People
- Other resources (i.e., articles, learning activities I created)
The textbooks I usually work with for French:
- Other resources (i.e., articles, learning activities I created)

I am open, however, to working with you on whichever textbooks you wish to use (or are currently using).

Experience: 2020 - Student Mentor, Language Horizons Project sponsored by Department of Education (West Midlands, UK)
- This 3-5 week project was set up with the aim to improve the low uptake of languages in Britain since languages became optional at GCSE level.
- I attentively lead and personalised activities during mentoring sessions that were moulded according to the overall interests of my class in order to provoke engaging debates with the students about the many facets of languages and culture.

2018 - English Teacher, Inter TOMAS Ogikubo School (Tokyo, Japan)
- Prepared and led group and private lessons (elementary to adult classes) over 5 months.
- Implemented a range of different ways of teaching group and private lessons, personalised to each student’s learning method.
- Aided and supported more advanced Japanese students, as well as my manager, in the translation of Japanese to English and English to Japanese.

2017-2018 - English Live-In Tutor (Bordeaux, France)
- Guided a French 17-year-old in their studying for their baccalaureate while also successfully improving their confidence and fluency in natural-sounding English by translating classic English literature (George Orwell`s Animal Farm) into French, explaining the grammar where necessary.
- Organised young 13-year-old in his English studies and his other homework such as history or science (which were in French) while also overseeing household duties.
- Also tutored a 5-year-old and 9-year-old on the side where I focused on supporting the fluency of their English conversation and knowledge of English vocabulary.

2017 - Guesthouse Staff/Translator/Tutor, Kikkake House (Nagoya, Japan)
- Aside from translating and helping in the operation and management of the guesthouse, I tutored Japanese elementary-school students in a relaxed and casual way, incorporating games to boost their English vocabulary.
- Translated and formatted the handbook for future helpers at the guesthouse.

2017 – Aupair (Paris, France)
- Tutoring 3 children aged between 9 and 17 in order to advance them in perfecting their spoken English.

2016 – Aupair (Trieste, Italy)
- Baby-sitting and supporting the conversational English of children aged 5-9.

2014 – Volunteer & Translator, Original Volunteers (Marrakesh, Morocco)
- Negotiated with locals as a French interpreter for my volunteer group and supported the conversational English practice of street children ages 4-10.
