I love teaching. I love learning. Ever since I completed my PhD ten years ago I have been teaching, mainly in English literature and language, but also in film and media studies, art and history. I am friendly, professional and passionate about my subjects and I believe in encouraging my students to access their enthusiasm to unlock their potential. Not only do I have a record of academic excellence, but I have a proven track record of helping ignite my students` confidence, enthusiasm and abilities, with the result of much higher grades after our tuition.
I have a first class BA honours in English literature, an MA in literature and philosophy (Distinction) and a PhD in literature and history. I have published my own research into literature and film. I also am a practicing artist.

Availability: I am available weekday daytimes and evenings and at weekends.

Experience: I have been teaching for over ten years at a variety of levels. I have over six years of experience teaching at university across a wide range of subjects in English literature, critical theory/philosophy and film and media studies. I have written and taught an Art History course on the relationship between Art and Revolution at the Cornerhouse (Home). I also have substantial experience tutoring at primary, secondary, GCSE, A level, BA, MA and PhD level. I have experience helping students with their reading and writing practices, assignment and exam preparation. I have substantial experience offering proof-reading and assignment and dissertation support to undergraduate and postgraduate degree students.

I believe in an active and student-centred approach to learning whereby I provide the support and expertise that enables my students to play a central role in their own learning and development. My approach is to draw out my students` interest in their subject in order to develop their confidence and ability to engage academically in the most effective way.

It is important when teaching to develop this enthusiasm within the structure of the particular syllabus or course outline - I encourage my students to understand and respond to what is being asked of them, whether it be for an assignment, presentation or exam. I also aim to develop my students` ability to respond to and structure ideas and arguments in a logical and clear way. I endeavour to make my teaching engaging and interactive, incorporating diverse and innovative approaches to ensure active and enthusiastic student participation.
