Information about Lizan

I am a friendly, patient and approachable tutor whose teaching approach revolves around the student, identifying their weaknesses and adapting to their needs so that they understand the subject thoroughly. Students gain confidence in dealing with their subjects and my aim is to equip them with the skills needed to be able to work effectively and independently.

I hope to make the subject more enjoyable by relating it to real life examples. By explaining concepts in different ways, students gain a new understanding of their work. Understanding the foundation of a subject is extremely important to be able to progress to more advanced levels successfully and so I will always do extra work in this area if I feel a student has weaknesses.

I provide worksheets and test papers as necessary, at suitable levels for each individual student`s needs. I also provide exam paper practice in addition to teaching the topics required on the specification. Helping the student to develop good study skills and revision techniques is also a high priority. I enjoy seeing my students gain understanding and make progress in their subjects.

I have past experience teaching Science and Maths at GCSE level and IGCSE, as well as A-Level Chemistry and Biology across different exam boards. I have also taught English, Maths and Science from KS1 to KS3, including for Common Entrance 11+ and 13+ exams. In addition to these, I`ve taught Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning for various entrance tests, as well as computer literacy and IT for adults looking to refresh their skills as part of career progression.

For those students applying to university, I have provided help and feedback on personal statements, having plenty of experience of my own.

After the success of some informal drawing lessons at the request of my students, I have decided to offer it as an individual subject. At the moment, I mostly focus on the use of sketching pencils for drawing and shading, with some colour theory. I will expand to different materials such as oil pastels, inks etc if the demand is there. I studied Art & Design at GCSE and occasionally do some casual work for friends.

I have a degree in Genetics (BSc Hons) and masters in Molecular Medicine (MSc) which have given me a thorough understanding of biology as well as statistics and chemistry concepts beyond A-Level. I also like to expanding my knowledge and staying updated with the latest dvelopments by studying in online courses in various subjects.

Availability: Weekdays, weekend all day.

I always travel to the student`s home. Any charges related to parking, toll charges (i.e. congestion charge) etc. to be covered by the client. If there is difficulty carrying out lessons in the student`s home, then I am perfectly happy to travel to a convenient public location for the student, such as a local library.

I am happy to schedule in short breaks of between 5-15 minutes for two hour lessons, particularly for small children (the break time will be added onto the two hours so you will still receive the full teaching time).

While I am willing to travel for longer distances, I would prefer such lessons to be in two hour sessions due to the travel time and costs.

I mainly teach throughout West London, Central London (City of Westminster), Buckinghamshire and Berkshire and may travel to other areas, so please enquire.

Due to the difficulty and unpredicatability of parking and traffic on event days, I no longer cover the Wembley area.

Willing to travel: 20 miles

Experience: I have taught students from primary school all the way to A-Level. My students have gained confidence in their studies and end up better able to work independently.

Students who have studied with me make big improvements, exceeding expectations in their subjects. GCSE students who have started with foundation papers have moved onto higher papers.

I am familiar with 11+ and 13+ exams for schools in the Buckinghamshire and Berkshire areas, as well as the North London Girls` School Consortium. I also have experiece with the American ISEE exams for entry to the American school system such as the American School London and those in the United States.

Schools my students for 11+ and Common Entrance 13+ have been accepted to include: Harrow School, Eton College, Merchant Taylor`s School, St Mary`s School Ascot, St George`s School Ascot, Francis Holland School Regent`s Park, Tring School, Queen`s College London, ArtsEd, Queen`s Gate School, ACS Hillingdon International School and Heathfield School, among others.

Lizan was a great tutor and really helped my daughter in the run up to her A-Levels in both Chemistry and Biology. Friendly, patient, and very well organised. I have no hesitation in recommending her to anyone.
