Information about Mel
What makes a lesson productive? What keeps the student engaged? What helps the student remember what they need to?
These are questions every great tutor must ask themselves, these are the questions that i`m most interested in.
My journey towards and through my Physics degree has always been guided by a curiosity to learn more about the world. The how, what and why. But I was just as much a student outside of the classroom as i was in it - from reading Greek philosophy to discovering how to craft the perfect ice-cream. My desire to learn, understand and apply never stopped.
After finishing my degree I decided I would help others to find that same sense of joy that you can get from learning. Which is why I`ve chosen to dedicate my time to working as a tutor full time for the time being.
Availability: Weekdays afternoons and evenings.
Weekends open to discussion.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: I`ve been tutoring since I was at University, with experience ranging from one-on-one, paired, group and teaching assistant roles.
Before the first lesson, I will hold a short consultation with you about your exact needs, hopes, and your current abilities.
In the first lesson we will have a short introduction, then we will explore what you do and don`t know and discover what the very best ways you learn in.
My approach will vary with age group personality style, and objectives. But in general I focus on using ideas such as distributed practice, elaborative learning and growth mindset.
In addition I can give advice on exam strategies and optimising your leaning environment to those who need it.
