Information about Alexia

I am a Spanish teacher, native speaker who is working in a Grammar School as Head of Spanish.

I am from Madrid, Spain and I came to London 8 years ago. I have worked in teaching since I came and I have plenty of experience with students as I am Head of Spanish and also Gifted and Talented coordinator in a secondary school in south west London. I studied Journalism as a degree in Spain, therefore I have plenty of knowledge of literature and history of Spain, very important for A level, especially for essays and IRPs.

I have a good record of excellent results in my key exam groups due to having a deep knowledge and understanding of what the exam boards require in the new specifications. I obtained this good knowledge as I became an external examiner to know first hand what is expected from students.

I know very well EDEXCEL and AQA exam boards so I know perfectly how the IGCSE, GCSE and A LEVEL exams are or how the students need to be prepared before their examination. My exam results last year were excellent : 91% achieved 9-7 (old grades a*-a) and 53% of that 91 achieved grade 8-9 (old grades A*-A)

I have plenty of experience helping student boosting their grades and success in their exams which have been proved in the feedback from parents (please see the feedback section). I tailor the lessons according to the students` needs and I teach depending of your child learning style and his/her weakest points. I provide excellent exam techniques that help student to become confident on how to face the exam to be able to aim for the highest marks in GCSE and A level.
I can also provide real materials to reinforce what your child has learned in school or I can introduce new and more elaborated content to boost your child grade to his/her best ability.

With the recent major overhaul of GCSEs and A Levels, it is a great challenge for schools to cover all the course content in class and prepare students thoroughly for the external examinations. With large class sizes and often a lack of individual speaking practice, pupils can lack confidence and not achieve their full potential in their exams or lessons in school. This overwhelm students and could stress them as they may find they have not had enough time or opportunities to prepare themselves for the Speaking Exam or writing skills.

Students usually feel they are not able to succeed in their examinations, but with motivation and focusing in grammar and other skills needed to be able to achieve a good grade.

Regarding A level, I know perfectly how to help students to obtain the highest scores in their exams as I am an external examiner who marks A level exam for Edexcel and i was marking for AQA in the last 3 years. I have attended numerous workshops for films and literature, besides my knowledge obtained from my Journalism degree and Spanish schooling.

I have been described as a friendly, warm and enthusiastic person who gets very well with young people, therefore students do not take tuition as something tedious and boring.

I am willing to travel to your place. Available after 5 pm as I work in a school and need some time to travel.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Adios :)

My daughter was really struggling with her GCSE Spanish & so we arranged several tutorials with Alexia to help. The improvement has been quick & clear and she has grown in confidence for her oral exam especially. Alexia is always prompt and very flexible with her timings. Although the GCSE has not yet been taken, I have no hesitation in recommending Alexia as a private tutor.

Dear Julia!
Thanks for your nice words! I couldn’t be happier when you texted me the other day saying Abby achieved a grade 8! I am so glad she put in practice the strategies I gave her and she managed to improve so much in just two months and go two grades up since I worked with her! All the best in her A level!

I really enjoyed working with Jemima as she was a hard working student. Achieving an A grade in such a difficult course like A level Spanish, is not easy. She progressed a lot. I am very proud of her. I am sure she will enjoy her gap year and later on her language careers. Congratulate her! :)
All the best
