Hi my name is Clare and I am a secondary school teacher working in the St Helens area of Merseyside. I have a number of qualifications in Mathematics, from GCSE right through to degree level Mathematics.
In 2007 I began studying Mathematics A-Level at a local sixth form college and this is where I discovered my passion for Maths. From this, I continued onto University of Liverpool where I studied a Mathematics degree. I studied 6 different topics of Mathematics each year from Pure Maths to Calculus and Mechanics. During my time at University, I researched and spent time in a number of different working environment. It was during this time that I found my enthusiasm for teaching. In 2012, I began my PGCE (teaching qualification) at Edge Hill University. During this year I spent time at a number of different schools and colleges and was fortunate enough to teach both GCSE level and A-Level Mathematics. I was also able to observe the teaching of Further Maths courses and support students where relevant, which also added to my teaching experience.
During my second teaching placement, I secured a job at a local secondary school and have been there ever since. I am fortunate enough to teach students with a range of abilities and a range of ages from 11 to age 16. We are undergoing a lot of input from different exams boards at the moment as the specification for GCSE Mathematics is changing dramatically. There are many topics that have been moved from the A-Level syllabus to the GCSE syllabus and it is important that are students are taught these in order for them to achieve their full potential.
Over the past 12 months, the GCSE grading system has changed from A*-G to Grades 9-1. I feel that I have the skills and knowledge to support students at any grade and help them to challenge their own ability and understanding. My approach to tutoring relies heavily on the use of examination questions. I encourage students to apply their understanding to exam questions and familiarise themselves with the wording of new specification questions and improve their exam technique. I hope that with support from myself and building up a bank of resources, we can succeed. Mathematics is such a key subject and is critical to all areas of further education and the wider working world. There are so many opportunities that are available to people with a Mathematical understanding.
I am able to teach to the specification of all the different exam boards but it would be useful if you could inform me of the exam board being studied to allow me to provide the most relevant and useful resources for each student.
I am willing to travel locally for student who require Maths tuition and will provide a range of resources for every student from exam questions to individual unit assessment. Please get in contact if you are interested or require further information. I am more than happy to answer any questions.
