Information about Helen
I graduated from a Masters in Sculpture at the Royal College of Art in 2021. I have been an art tutor for the past 8 years, specialising in GCSE and A Level portfolio building. I love meeting new students and helping them to develop their art practice and skills.
I currently teach art to a whole range of students from four years old upwards. I focus on teaching both new techniques such as oil pastel, printing, collage, Photoshop and craft based activities as well as helping students improve skills in drawing and painting.
I also teach sketchbook and portfolio work for GCSE and A Level, helping students to understand the marking criteria and therefore develop their artistic skills, show development through ideas and concepts as well as a focus on annotation and essay writing.
I really enjoy teaching art and all my students have exceeded in their subject and enjoyed the session together. I am enthusiastic and patient and will go out of my way to help and teach in a clear, simple and fun way. I teach creatively, explaining ideas and concepts visually to help students understand and more effectively digest ideas and information.
In my free time, I run an art studio in central London where I continue working on my art practice, drawing, painting and creating films and installations. I also enjoy visiting art galleries, making gifts and practicing tai chi.
Availability: I am happy to teach both online and in person. I am available most weekdays and evenings.

Experience: I graduated from MA Sculpture at The Royal College of Art in 2021 and graduated from Camberwell College of Arts with a first class honours degree in 2014. Since graduating from my BA, I have taught creative subjects to both children and adults.
I have had lots of experience teaching SEND students. For two years I taught English and Maths to secondary school aged students who were not in mainstream education, often working with children with SEN and behavioural issues. I used art and creative processes to engage the students in learning which in turn would create a more positive outlook on education and push their boundaries of what they thought they could achieve. I have also taught art, textiles and the Adobe suite to autistic students for the past four years.
I have been tutoring GCSE and A-Level art for six years- helping students with coursework, exam preparation and their portfolios. The feedback from these sessions has been extremely positive and students have seen their grades improve dramatically.
I have also run arts and crafts clubs in schools teaching art, jewellery design, painting and crafts.

Helen is everything you could wish for in a tutor. She is calm, patient and a good teacher. She has rekindled my daughter`s love of art and is painlessly filling in gaps in her maths from when she was off school recently. Fantastic!

Helen is the most excellent tutor. She is punctual, polite and very accommodating. Her manner is excellent and she was able to establish a rapport immediately and managed to achieve more than the goals we had initially had. My daughter looked forward to Helen`s visits and she made the lessons imaginative and fun while achieving an enormous amount of work - far exceeding the content and volumes at school. We are personally grateful to Helen and would highly highly recommend her.

Helen is helping my daughter with her GCSE art. She has been a great help so far and helped my daughter find a direction and enabled her to get going with it. She is engaging and thoughtful and definitely understands what the student needs to produce to get high grades without making things formulaic.
