I`m a bilingual private tutor and language school teacher for both English and German with a great passion for languages and different cultures. It brings me great joy to see a student find their own passion as they improve their language skill and learn more about another culture. It`s what drew me to my choice of degrees, a BA in Comparative Literature and Film, an MA in Humanities from NYU, and an MA from SOAS in Anthropology of Food.

I tailor lessons to my students` needs and interests, because if they`re motivated, the learning process will be more relaxed and enjoyable and won`t come to a grinding halt due to any challenges along the way. This is why I sometimes like to incorporate games - it`s a great way to get my students immersed in the language and associate the things learnt with this fun activity for later memory retention. Having said this, there will still be structure to lessons - organising new information is key to remembering.

In this time of online teaching, I have been using all kinds of resources from Kahoot quizzes to Zoom annotation features and even the student`s physical space as part of language exercises. It`s crucial to vary types of activities to keep students engaged. If appropriate, I like to let students in on my teaching methodology, so they can take this knowledge with them even when they have decided to stop taking lessons. The many resources I recommend also helps them to keep practicing and improving in their own time, and to maintain the passion for the culture and language.

I can provide additional value to Korean learners of English or German, since I have extensive knowledge of the language, having learnt Korean for many years and lived there for over a year. This means I understand specific problem areas and can target these to help my Korean students make greater progress. I also speak French, Spanish and am learning Mandarin.

Experience: I`m a certified language teacher since 2018 and have more than two years experience tutoring both adults and children in English and German. I have taught language learners in a group setting and one-to-one. I continue to teach German to groups of adult learners and one-to-one at established language school International House London.
