Information about George

My Background

I’m George, a native Greek tutor with a decade of experience teaching adults. I grew up in Thessaloniki, studied Political Science (BA) and Philosophy (MA) at the Aristotle University, and later completed an MSc in Sociology at the London School of Economics. Before settling in London, I lived in Buenos Aires and Montreal, teaching English and Greek, learning Spanish, and discovering how deeply culture shapes the way we communicate.

I always hated language learning as a kid. Those years abroad changed everything for me. I realised that I didn’t dislike languages at all, I disliked how they were taught. Textbooks, fixed curricula, memorisation, rigid rules, very little real speaking. Once I experienced languages as living, human things in Buenos Aires, I started developing a way of teaching that felt natural, practical, and personal. When I moved to London, I began teaching professionally, and eventually created Language for Life and Business, my online school specialising in adult learners.

How I Teach

Every adult learner brings a different way of thinking and processing language. Some need structure, others need freedom. Some love grammar, others learn through stories and examples. Some thrive with notes and homework, others have demanding lives and want the lesson to be enough.

Instead of asking students to adjust to a method, I adjust the method to the student:

• If you need time to speak and experiment, we build from that.
• If you’re anxious about mistakes, we slow down and create safety.
• If you prefer understanding the mechanics, we explore the system behind the language.
• If you learn through use and repetition, we stay inside real conversations.

I see teaching as a process of discovering how you learn. Once that becomes clear, progress accelerates and lessons stop feeling like going back to school. They become 50 minutes of focus, creativity, and real communication, a break from the day rather than another obligation.

Over the years I’ve taught hundreds of adults from around the world, each with different goals: communicating with partners or relatives, moving to Greece, reconnecting with heritage, or just improving pronunciation. Many of these relationships have grown into friendships, something I value deeply.

If you’re looking for a lesson that respects your pace, your personality, and your way of learning, I’d be glad to work with you.

Availability: I`m generally flexible with days and times, so we can easily find a schedule that works well for both of us. Just let me know what suits you, and we’ll make it happen!
