Information about Rhyanna

Fun but focused one-to-one tuition for maths and science (11+, KS3, GCSE, A level) for exam preparation or confidence boosting, also experienced in home-schooling.

See ‘my subjects’ for a breakdown on the subjects I teach.

My tutoring sessions provide a fun and challenging learning environment, whilst identifying and filling gaps in the student’s knowledge across their syllabus, building on their logic and understanding, and enhancing their confidence in their abilities. My tutoring sessions are tailored to each student and discovering the best learning techniques for them.

My name is Rhyanna, I live in Southgate, I`m 30 years old and I have been tutoring for several years now. I started tutoring to support me through my university studies in Chemical Engineering, and it has evolved into my full-time job. I feel comfortable explaining all mathematic and scientific concepts in detail, from an early level up to degree level.

I sat the 11+ entrance exam myself for various schools, including Dame Alice Owen’s, Latimer and Saint Albans Girls, and I am knowledgable about the entrance exam format for many secondary schools, which include verbal reasoning, maths, english, and non-verbal reasoning. This kind of entrance exam preparation is aimed to work on your child’s ability to ‘reason’ and think logically, which is a valuable long term skill for future education and helps in many subjects.

I took up my place at Dame Alice Owens School and achieved 11 GCSE`s, 8 of which were A*`s and the rest A`s, and went on to achieve two A`s and one A* at A level in Maths, Chemistry and History (plus a AS in Economics). I have a proven record of showing others how to do exactly that (and better!). My passion for tutoring all started with helping my little sister with her school work.

I graduated from the University of Birmingham in Summer 2014 with a Bachelors of Engineering in Chemical Engineering (2.1), and have found my main passion is still helping others with their studies. For me, this is so much more rewarding than any other job, and it rarely feels like just a ‘job’.

I teach physics, chemistry and maths at GCSE, and chemistry and maths at A level. My degree in chemical engineering fuelled my interest in teaching these subjects and bringing them to life for my students.

As previously mentioned, I also tutor maths, English and verbal reasoning for 11+ exams and have a very good record of helping students get a place at their desired schools.

I offer one-to-one lessons in person, or online via zoom, or a combination of the two.

I take pride in really making sure my students are getting the most out of the tutoring sessions by tailoring each lesson to that student and their learning techniques. I look forward to seeing them fulfil their potential, and the sense of achievement they get from exceeding their own expectations is really a joy to see, and is the reason I am tutoring! I also believe exam technique is very important, so, as well as covering and revising the syllabus, I will provide and go through relevant past papers to shape knowledge into examiner-friendly answers.

Initially I was worried how effective online lessons with someone we never met can be, but Rhyanna has been excellent in establishing a good rapport with my rather reserved daughter, who has been making a good progress in Maths since she started lessons with Rhyanna. A real bonus has been that Rhyanna is able to help her also with Physics in addition to Maths and has been very flexible within reasonable time limits.

Ryhanna was absolutely fantastic with my daughter for her entrance exams, I just wish I had got her in sooner!
