Information about Charles

UNAVAILABLE TILL MAY 2018
I am a second-year student studying History at Saint Andrews University with a keen interest, and experience, in tutoring. I am happy to aid with Common Entrance GCSE, and A-Level learning. I am expected to obtain a 1st in my degree.

Having just completed examinations with multiple exam boards (Cambridge, AQA, Edexcel) I am acutely aware of their criteria and the required exam technique to achieve top grades. Due to this, I have the significant advantage of being able to provide, detailed, up to date advice and material with the precise requirements of each respective subject and exam board. Of course, my approach is tailored to the needs of each student and after gauging their particular abilities and aptitude I will help to set realistic goals agreed with both parents and students.

Achieving academic prizes in History, Politics and Classics I can give students the detailed knowledge in a clear and concise way whilst also providing daily assistance with the student’s individual needs. My organised, methodical, hard-working and confident approach will help to improve students’ oral and written communication and I hope to instil such an approach in those I teach.

Through a friendly and encouraging attitude, my ultimate aim is to help young people fulfil their academic potential by making ideas approachable and learning fun, whilst allowing students to grow in their academic confidence. I am aspiring to go into teaching after completing higher education and am eager to combine traditional teaching methodology and more recent technological tools to enhance learning. Particularly for younger learners, although it can aid students at every level, I use analogies and metaphors that help abstract ideas become more comprehensible.

My personal academic interests are relatively broad and I am always willing, indeed enthusiastic, about helping inquisitive students to develop their knowledge beyond the confines of the syllabus. At school, I was Secretary of the International Relations Society and Hastings Society, whilst being an active member of the English, Debating, Philosophy, Politics, Classics and the Hudson Society (Upper Sixth academic society) giving me a broad base of understanding to draw upon.

Please don’t hesitate to get in contact.

Availability: My timings are flexible, and I am happy to cater to the student`s schedule between the hours of 8am and 10pm, all days of the week. I am willing to tutor in most locations, including online (although, real-world, face to face interaction would be beneficial for both parties).

Willing to travel: 5 miles

Experience: Worked for Orphan Aid, in Ghana, where I taught a class of 50 primary school children focusing on basic English and Maths skills. Dealing with linguistic barriers and high numbers of students has given me the flexibility to engage with all types of students.

I have mentored 13-15-year-olds assisting them with their work undertaking debating competitions with them and giving advice and support more generally.

Prefect and team leader during Duke of Edinburgh Bronze and Gold expeditions.
