Information about Ruth
2026 RESULTS: 92% of my private A-Level tutees achieved A/A*, while my school cohort achieved 84% A*-B grades.
I am a qualified Geography teacher (QTS), Head of Department and regular GCSE and A-Level examiner, with over 12 years’ teaching experience in an Ofsted Outstanding school in South London. I studied Geography with Management at Loughborough University (Most Outstanding Student 2014) and I subsequently completed my PGCE at St Mary’s University, Twickenham, and qualified as a teacher.
I have taught the full A-Level Geography syllabus since 2015 and tutor GCSE and A-Level students across AQA, Edexcel, OCR and IGCSE specifications. I mark exam scri pts during the summer term and I lead on the marking and moderation of the NEA (coursework) component at borough level.
My experience as an examiner gives me a detailed understanding of assessment criteria and what is required to achieve the highest grades. I use this insight to help students identify where they are losing marks and improve the quality and precision of their exam responses. My tutoring is tailored to each student, whether they need to address knowledge gaps, consolidate the specification or develop their exam technique. Past-paper questions, mark schemes and examiner reports are used regularly to help students apply their knowledge effectively and understand what examiners are looking for.
Availability: As I am a full time teacher during the week, my availability will be after 5pm on weekdays.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: I have tutored over 40 pupils through both GCSE and A-Level courses in AQA, Edexcel and OCR.
I offer guidance and feedback on NEA (coursework) aspects of the A-Level.
I offer guidance on UCAS Personal Statements and EPQs.

Ruth has been an excellent tutor for my daughter. My daughter switched exam boards and was not receiving teaching for the alternative board through school. Consequently Ruth taught her the A level syllabus initially on 1 session per week then increasing to 2/3 sessions per week. Ruth is a kind and thoughtful tutor. She understood my daughter’s specific needs and learning style. The lessons were fun and lots of ground was covered. Ruth was very supportive as exams approached. She gave great advice regarding exam technique. My daughter really looked forward to each of her lessons. She achieved A* so was delighted that all of Ruth’s guidance and support gave her the grade she aspired to. Would recommend Ruth wholeheartedly.
