Information about Olivia
I have just spent a year completing my PGCE at UCL whilst working as a full time Geography teacher with Teach First in a London secondary school. I am a First Class Honours Geography graduate from Durham University and I am currently undertaking a masters in Geopolitics at King`s College London. I thoroughly enjoy working with young people and building positive relationships to help them fulfil their potential.
I achieved 10A*s at GCSE (100% in Geography) and an A* in Geography A level
Availability: Very flexible but generally available weeknights and also weekends
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: - Obtained a PGCE with UCL, currently ranked the number 1 University for Education
- Taught as a full time Geography teacher in a secondary school covering a vast range of topics and working with students of varying abilities, including students with learning difficulties.
- Had both KS3 and GCSE classes and so have concrete experience at all levels.
- Prepared students for GCSE examinations including navigating the new 9-1 mark schemes and fieldwork.
My approach to tutoring is based on building a good working relationship with the student to ensure that they feel completely comfortable working with me and trying new techniques. I want the student`s to increase their resilience to challenge so that they can develop the skills to become independent learners.
I am extremely organised and will be adaptable to the individual student`s needs, focusing strongly on exam technique (if applicable) but also finding the enjoyment in the subject.
If appropriate, I will also be able to help ease exam anxiety having struggled myself during school examinations. I want students to feel as confident as possible and can teach them a range of coping strategies if this is something they find difficult.
