Information about James
I`m a first year medical student at UCL. I`m a keen musician (playing clarinet, piano and sing), and love running. Having achieved 11A*s at GCSE and more recently 4A*s in my A levels (Biology, Chemistry, Further Maths and Maths), I am very familiar with exam technique and the tricks of the trade, which I am hoping to pass on! I am also very happy to offer advice on personal statements and interview for entrance to medical school.
In terms of approach, I am very flexible and keen to try out different ways of learning so we can find what suits you best. I often find tutees can understand concepts well, but when it comes down to answering exam questions, may not get the marks, so I am keen to impress upon good exam technique, and share key phrases and strategies that will pick up marks in the exam.
I like to follow progress and highlight problem areas, so like to use mini-tests or quizzes in the session, which also helps develop exam technique.
Availability: Available on some weekday evenings- please ask!
Saturday:11am-6pm
Sunday mornings
Willing to Skype if necessary
Willing to travel: 3 miles
Experience: I have previously tutored a student in GCSE Chemistry (who progressed from a predicted C grade to achieving an A). Through Skype tutoring I informally tutored triple science, helping the tutee achieve 3 A*s in their GCSEs. I have ran several revision classes for A level maths, and have had previous experience of teaching large groups of about 15 as Head of Section of the RAF at my CCF contingent.
