Information about John
I am an enthusiastic scientist with a first class degree in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge. I specialised in Chemistry, completing my masters in June 2015 having also studied physics, maths and material science in previous years.
This year I will be involved in research into polymers for drug delivery at the University of Nottingham.
Outside academia, my main interests are sport and music. As a keen racket sports player I have enjoyed captaining teams at university, and compete regularly at national championships. I have also played the piano for many years, performing in a jazz trio.
I believe tutoring should be a very flexible process, where I can get to know individuals and adapt teaching and revision techniques for each student.
I like to encourage independent thought and confidence in the learner, which helps to build motivation towards a subject. This then really helps when it comes to exam revision, as learning becomes a lot easier with the right motivation!
Availability: Very flexible, available weekdays and weekends.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: I have had a variety of teaching experiences. I recently spent two months teaching English as a foreign language in China and South Korea, working with 7 year olds up to college students and gaining a TEFL qualification. I am a dry slope ski instructor in England, having done group and individual tuition, adapting explanations and teaching styles to suit different learning techniques. I have also been a scout young leader, running and organising activities for a group of around 30 students.
