Information about Rachel

*******
Thank you for viewing my profile. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is of course not possible to conduct lessons in person at present. However, I have had some success conducting online sessions, via Skype, Zoom and WhatsApp. In light of the necessity for home schooling, I am also increasing my age bracket to include all secondary school years, from 7-11 in science and maths, and year 12 in Chemistry. Online rates will be between £20-£30/h.

*******

When I am not tutoring, I work part-time completing my PhD in developing new kinds of plastics from renewable materials (like plants and carbon dioxide) at Imperial College London. Prior to this, I achieved a first class masters degree in Green Chemistry, also at Imperial, and a Natural Sciences MSci degree from Durham university. I also manage and run a small international development charity working in the South Pacific.

I am available to tutor in all science and maths subjects to AS Level standard and Chemistry and Physics to A Level standard. I have extensive experience working with children and teenagers, in particular, spent a year as head of maths at a secondary school in the South Pacific where I taught A-level standard maths and physics.

I have experience with all the latest science and maths GCSE specifications (9-1 and iGCSE), and current A Level Chemistry specifications.

I usually recommend a 60 or 90 minute lesson or two hours with a break, but this will depend on the individual student. I charge £40 for the first hour to include travel time, and £30 for the second. I am usually happy to travel to you, so a 90 minute lesson would cost £55.

Please get in touch with your requirements. Although I have experience mostly tutoring older students, I have worked with younger students and children in various other capacities, and will consider tutoring pupils of all ages. However, priority will always be given to exam students in years 11 and 13, and to those living in and around Morden.

I myself am bubbly and energetic, with a love for the outdoors. I am passionate towards environmental issues and equal opportunities. In my spare time, I organise a charity project to build and develop schools in the South Pacific nation of Vanuatu.
