Emma

My name is Emma and I am a high school English teacher with 3 years experience. I studied English Literature at university and then returned to complete my PGCE. I currently teach at all secondary levels, and my classes at school currently include KS3 non-setted, top set GCSE, lower set GCSE and A Level.

I pride myself on bringing enthusiasm to all lessons and making English fun, interesting and inclusive of all learning styles and students. I teach upwards - this means that regardless of what you are achieving now I will not limit you to that level. My job, and my passion, is to help you to achieve the grade YOU want, not what you`ve been told you will get. I will provide you with everything you need (resources, 1-2-1 help, high level models with all of the support needed to reach those goals etc) and support you to reach all of your potential. Some examples of this, from this year alone: a student who had been underperforming at a grade 4 in top set who is now on course to achieve a minimum grade 7 this exam season and; a student with very little confidence who struggled with literacy at the beginning of year 10 English in the lowest set who was predicted a grade 2, he is now on course to achieve grade 5 in Literature.

In my lessons you can expect clear and easy to follow demonstrations, complete support and fun, engaging activities. I won`t just give you instructions to pass an exam, I will also give you the skills and confidence you need to succeed and begin to love English!

Experience: Three years of teaching secondary school English. Classes include A Level, GCSE (mixed ability sets, top set and lower set) and year 7-9. I also have been tutoring during this, specifically on the AQA GCSE specification. I am able to be flexible in terms of exam specification as well.
