An avid book lover since an early age, English teaching was a clear choice of career for me. I studied English, History and Biology at A Level and achieved A*s in English and History and an A in Biology. I went on to study English at the University of Birmingham and achieved a first class degree, along with a prize for my work in medieval literature during my final year. After completing a PGDipEd at the University of Birmingham, in my second year of teaching I completed my MA in Education alongside teaching full time and achieved a merit.

So far I have tutored two students at GCSE level and have enjoyed catering my lessons to the specific needs of the pupil I am tutoring and seeing them grow in their knowledge and understanding both in terms of the subject content and how to apply that in essay writing. In my job as an English teacher I teach across years 7-13 and have taught both English Literature and English Language at GCSE as well as A Level English Literature and English Language & Literature. My teaching style and outlook is best summarised in the words of Jennifer Webb: "unapologetically ambitious, unashamedly academic". My lessons, both in the classroom and in a tutoring context, are highly structured and focused on increasing knowledge - both subject and procedural (e.g. essay writing).
