Information about Amanda
I have over 30 years experience in education as a teacher, tutor and manager, working in UK (mainstream and independent) and overseas schools. I have completed my PGCE with QTS in secondary mathematics, and also teach English language and literature, and philosophy. I have worked with the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme as programme coordinator, and English and Theory of Knowledge teacher.
Availability: I am available to tutor online on weekdays and evenings.
Willing to travel: Home Only
Experience: I have considerable experience of teaching students with SEN (special educational needs) and also students for whom English is a second language. I am currently working at a virtual school in the UK as a GCSE tutor for SEN students, and as an online tutor for both UK and overseas students, teaching maths, English language and literature, and philosophy.
Having completed a PGCE in secondary mathematics, I have experience of teaching maths to students who aim to increase their grades in both Foundation and Higher Tier GCSE. For example, this year, I have supported a student to increase her grade from 5 to 7 in Higher Tier GCSE over a period of three months. I have also worked with students with special educational needs, who have increased their grades from 2 to 4. Mathematics clearly has an important place in national curricula and I recognise, both as an educator and parent, that some students may need some support in for a variety of reasons. I also believe that a positive experience with mathematics has great benefits for students education overall, enabling them to develop a systematic, analytical approach and problem-solving strategies.
