Information about Jack

I have a doctorate (PhD) in Mathematics and I am a fully qualified teacher with experience at all levels (KS2, KS3, GCSE, A-Level and University) in Mathematics. I have taught mathematics at Brunts Academy, Woodlands School, Nottingham Academy and Nottingham Trent University. I am currently a lecturer working in the Computing and Mathematics department at University of Derby. My roles at the university involves, planning and teaching mathematics, safeguarding and progress monitoring to ensure all students have a great experience in learning mathematics. I am also research active in statistics and data science with multiple publications (see Google scholar) and conference talks.

I love my job, working out what makes my students tick and using their strengths to broaden their skills and rebuilding their confidence.

Availability: I have experience working in schools teaching children of all abilities and ages and therefore I am very familiar with the national curriculum. My one-to-one lessons is an opportunity for children to ask questions, work on topics specific to them and build their mathematical knowledge.

I have had the pleasure to work with children and parents on a one-to-one basis for over 8 years now. I have received some wonderful feedback for progress and achievement of my students. My most recent comments are “Excellent teacher for my son who is studying BA(hons) degree in mechanical engineering” and “Brilliant with the children! He makes them feel confident and really brings the best out of them. He is warm and friendly and absolutely wonderful with the boys. Would highly recommend”. I love to help and teach children on an individual basis because you really get to understand their needs and work on topics at their pace that they really need help with. I have seen some excellent progress and success from students and this is for me is the best part of the job and is why I continue to endear to help more students.

Willing to travel: 30 miles

Experience: In every lesson, I aim to rebuild self-esteem and confidence, to overcome the fear of mathematics and for children to become more self-assured in their own ability. An initial assessment will inform me of any gaps in their knowledge, discuss any student/parent concerns and an opportunity to plan an individual scheme of work that will help them reach their full potential.
Problem solving (wordy questions) and exam style questions are two common fears of mathematics. One-to-one lessons can be an opportunity to overcome these fears and to ensure that your child is on track and confident to undertake any future examination and/or coursework.
I will happily discuss their progress and future targets after each lesson. And sometimes I will provide students with additional exercises to do independently at home to reinforce and consolidate what was learnt in that lesson.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to message me, I will happily help in anyway.
