Information about James
I am a research scientist at the University of Southampton (UoS) researching in the fields of molecular biology and genetics and I will be finishing my PhD this year. I am a 25 year old male, living in the center of Basingstoke. I am a friendly, sociable person with a real passion for science.
I have a BSc (2:1) in Biochemistry from Southampton, which is the course I now teach on. During my secondary school education I obtained A-levels in Maths, Biology, Chemistry, AS levels in Further Maths and Physics and 12 GCSEs including individual Biology, Chemistry and Physics, from Bournemouth Grammar School.
Availability: I am available for tutoring weekday evenings from 6pm.
My strongest area of teaching is A-level Biology and GCSE Maths, Biology and Chemistry. I am also a highly competent teacher of GCSE Physics and degree level Biological Sciences and I am able to teach AS Maths, AS/A-level Chemistry and various Biology/Chemistry topics for the IB or adult learners.

Experience: I have taught on the undergraduate Biomedical Sciences and Biochemistry degree programs at UoS for the last three years, including being an academic tutor to over 50 students. I also have a few weeks experience teaching at a secondary school in Southampton and covered the academic years 7-11 for Science.
I have a patient but focused approach to teaching , which I find helps students more fully grasp complex scientific theories. I prefer to encourage lots of interaction from students to keep them engaged but I am very able to tailor my teaching style to the individual students learning needs. I enjoy teaching a large range of academic abilities and I find that my patient but focused style of teaching helps my students reach their full potential.
