Information about Chloe

Hi!

My name is Chloe and I am looking to tutor English, History of Art and Curatorial Studies, and offer help to those preparing for Oxbridge and other university applications. I graduated from Cambridge in 2016 with a Double First in English, and went on to study an MA in Curating Contemporary Art at the Royal College of Art from 2017-2019. I currently work as a freelance curator.

I specialise in tutoring students at A-Level and Degree level, but I do take some younger students.

English is a subject which I am truly passionate about. I have specialised in Medieval literature including Chaucer and Medieval Drama, Contemporary, Modern, Romantic and Renaissance poetry, literature in translation and the works of Shakespeare, amongst other areas. Poetry, especially contemporary and experimental, is important to me, and something I love writing about and teaching.

I also have a thorough knowledge of art - contemporary in particular from my MA studies, along with a more historical perspective gained from A-Level History of Art and extensive gallery and museum visits.

Having just emerged from the world of education myself, I am sensitive to the pressures students currently feel when it comes to achieving success, and the difficulties of adapting knowledge to fit a mark scheme. I aim to teach with my experience as a student in mind to understand how to make learning less stressful, workloads more manageable and ambitions reachable.

I am sympathetic to students struggling with anxiety or more general stress surrounding their work and ability, and aim to help students develop strategies to cope with work and learn in a healthy, positive way.

I tutor with mark schemes in mind, with a thorough knowledge of how to tailor each student`s creativity and original thought to the examiner`s expectations. I believe in learning as a creative process one that should be fun and exciting, and invite interest beyond school work. As well as teaching with specific set texts/artworks in mind, I aim to introduce students to works outside of these parameters that might further their enthusiasm, when appropriate.

For those wanting help with university applications - especially Oxbridge essay submissions, entrance exams and interview processes - I offer personal statement help, essay help and general advice.

Availability: I am available both at weekends and weekdays/evenings.

Willing to travel: 8 miles

Experience: I`ve tutored privately for several years since graduating from Cambridge.

During my A-levels I set up and led a successful creative writing class for younger students, in order to develop students` understanding of literature from a creative, practical viewpoint to experience the process of how a story comes together and what it consists of. Mainly, my aim was to encourage a positive, entertaining approach to English.

I also led a group looking at Spanish short stories, poetry, and art for GCSE and A-level students studying English and Spanish.
