Information about Rob
I have a degree in English Literature from University of Manchester and an MA in History from Queen Mary, University of London.
I completed my PGCE at Goldsmiths College in 2017 and have been working in a Secondary School since, teaching Key Stage 3, GCSE and A-Level English.
I have worked as a tutor for nine years, both before and during my work as a teacher in a school.
During this time, I have developed deep and current knowledge of curricula. I have also developed evidence-based pedagogical approaches which help students to make progress and achieve their potential.
I feel that a strength throughout my time teaching has been to form excellent relationships with students. I feel comfortable adapting my approach to the needs of each student to ensure that, as well as working towards achieving their academic goals, they enjoy their learning.
I have a lot of experience of planning and delivering lessons, and am able to ensure that the learning potential of every lesson is maximised.
I am extremely passionate about these subjects and take great pleasure in helping students to develop their knowledge and understanding of them. I also recognise that, very often, what holds a student back in Humanities subjects is not a lack of understanding of the subject so much as difficulties in expressing themselves in an academic style, and I have spent a lot of time working with students to successfully improve their essay writing and written work.
Whether a student is having difficulties with a particular topic or student, or is simply in need of some extra preparation before an important examination, I feel confident that I have the experience and knowledge to help them to progress. My friendly demeanour and enjoyment of teaching has also helped me to form good relationships with students, which I have found to be very important when working one on one over a long period of time.
Availability: I work part-time in a school, and so am available during Monday or Tuesday daytimes or Tuesday or Thursday evenings.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: Teaching: I have worked in a comprehensive school in South East London for the past two and a half academic years. I have taught English Literature and Language at KS3, KS4 (GCSE) and KS5 (A-Level).
Tutoring: I have been tutoring professionally since graduating and moving to London in 2011. In this time, I have worked with a large variety of students at different stages of their academic careers.
Much of my experience has been in helping GCSE and A-Level students prepare for their exams in Humanities subjects. My experience includes:
History GCSE and A-Level - all exam boards, all modules.
English Literature GCSE and A-Level - all exam boards, all modules.
English Language GCSE and A-Level - all exam boards, all modules.
