Information about Jazmin
I am a fully qualified English teacher living and working in the UK.
I have a degree in English literature, a PGCE in secondary English and a masters degree in Education from the University of Bristol. I am a full-time private teacher and have over 10 years teaching experience, including 5 years as a secondary school English teacher.
I am fiercely passionate about English and share my love of my subject through engaging, quality learning sessions that enable students to find enjoyment in their studies whilst ensuring progress. I am efficient with marking and feedback, and am experienced in providing lessons that specifically targets existing gaps in students knowledge.
I currently teach both international and local clients, from both private school and state school backgrounds. I am proficient with facilitating online learning and am able to make lessons interactive, thorough and as effective as in-person tuition. I am also very experienced with delivering group sessions of up to 6 students via Zoom.
My experience in the classroom means that I am confident in meeting the demands of young learners, whatever their ability, and have a stellar understanding of the fundamentals of teaching and learning. I am experienced in giving one-to-one lessons in preparation for exams. Having undertaken GCSEs, A Levels and degrees myself, I am able to use my own experience in producing revision resources to help students develop essential study skills.
I have taught the language and literature GCSE curriculum, producing excellent results for multiple year 11 classes. This means I am extremely confident in teaching:
- All skills for the language reading paper
- All skills for the language writing paper
- GCSE Literature texts.
The structural design of my lessons are rooted in pedagogical research to ensure effective embedding of skills over time. The lessons begin with recall and retrieval to exercise memory of previous lessons. Next, the lessons progress to introduce a new skill, with examples and opportunities to apply new knowledge. Then, the lesson ends with formal application, either an exam-style question (adapted for learner`s age and ability) or with a formal writing task. I finish the lessons with questions to the students which require them to evaluate their performance and the "takeaways" from the lesson. Throughout the lessons, there is regular AFL (assessment for learning), metacognition opportunities (pauses to ask questions about the purpose of tasks) and stretch and challenge. The lesson plan can change in seconds based on what I assess to be a necessary change of direction.
I am exam trained. I am currently an examiner for AQA and have attended examiner training for Eduqas GCSE English language and English literature.
I have taught around 1,000 students, the majority of which I guided through their GCSE studies. Individual successes as a tutor include Hasan, a student who retook his English Language. Hasan secured a Level 3 at first, and had 2 months of intensive tuition. Hasan secured a Level 6 which enabled him to secure a place at Liverpool University to study Law. Another student, Fiona, received intensive English lessons for 2 years and secured Level 9s in both English Language and English Literature. Ben secured the award at his school for "Excellence in English" for his evident progress during lockdown, a period in which he received regular tuition that helped him achieve two 6s in English. Recently, my A Level student Hana secured full marks in her coursework and earned a place at Edinburgh University after working in our sessions to perfect their personal statement.
Broader successes relate to my work with gifted and talented students and ensuring they were pushed in the direction of Level 9 grades in their subjects. The students in my classes, every year, gained on their predicted grades, and often soared above their target grades.
I pride myself on holding students to high standards and to be ambitious with English -

Experience: I have taught English in a secondary state school for four years. The schools I trained and worked in were situated in low socio-economic areas and the demographic was particularly demanding in terms of teaching expectations. I taught Year 7 up to Year 11, and am confident in delivering lessons on any aspect of English for any age.
I have dedicated all of my academic life to perfecting my understanding of English and education. I pride myself on my ability to teach all sessions with excitement and positivity to make an enjoyable learning experience for the student every time.
I have taught top sets, lower sets and multiple mixed-ability groups of different sizes. I have experience with teaching different group sizes: from sets of 35 students to one-to-one sessions for individual students, both within school and on a private tuition-basis. I have tutored informally and formally since I was a student at university.
I have tutored students with SEN to help them prepare for their Functional Skills exams, and have privately tutored EAL students for their iGCSE studies. I have provided crash course tutor sessions ahead of GCSE examinations, and am proficient in helping students create engaging, effective revision resources for any examination they are preparing for.
I am efficient with marking and feedback, and am driven to provide tutoring that specifically targets existing gaps in students knowledge. My experience in the classroom means that I am confident in meeting the demands of young learners, whatever their ability, and have a stellar understanding of the fundamentals of teaching and learning.
I have clients based in foreign countries and clients in the UK.
