Maria Sanziana

I am a Bioengineering PhD researcher at Imperial College London and tutor with over 6 years of experience. I graduated in 2021 from Imperial College London with an MSci Chemistry with first class honours and earned a place on Dean`s list (top 10% of my class). Currently, I am pursuing research in the highly interdisciplinary field of microneedle biosensors.

All my students improved their grades and reached (at least) their desired grades A Level, GCSE, IB, IELTS or ABRSM examinations.

Having taught over 20 students for a total of more than 300 hours, I have developed personalised, student-focused teaching methods to ensure all my students respond well to teaching and reach their potential.

My experience goes beyond my undergraduate studies. Having plenty of research experience under my belt (2 months at UCLA in California and 1 year at the Francis Crick biomedical research institute), I am passionate about inspiring young students to pursue their goals.

APPROACH TO TUTORING

Apart from usual textbooks, I use additional materials (3D models, interactive pictures) in order to make students comprehend certain notions better.

I always tailor my teaching methods to fit my students` needs and be suitable for reaching their goals. I start preparation with a detailed preparation plan which is conceived based on the balance between the goal of the student, the amount of work/material to be covered and the student`s availability to allocate a certain amount of time for studying the subject. During the preparation, I combine theory teaching with problem solving, problem based learning, giving the right amount of homework and tests to ensure the student develops the skills needed in particular areas of the material.

Experience: I have been teaching Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Maths, English for IELTS and Piano to more than 20 students over the past six years. My most notable accomplishment as a teacher was getting a student to jump from all C`s to all A`s in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics in one month.
