I graduated in Applied Maths and Physics at UC Swansea in 1965 then did a postgraduate Diploma in Education. I taught Maths and Physics to A Level GCE in a local comprehensive school and then left teaching after 2 years, for a career in IT. The years from 2004 to 2014 I have spent as a Kumon Instructor providing instruction in Maths and English to up to 90 children aged from 4 to 18.

I retired from Kumon in September 2014 and have been active in coaching a small number of students in Maths at various levels including GCSE and `A`Level, in order to boost my pension and keep my brain active. I will do KS3, GCSE, or ‘A’ Level - hourly rate £30, £35 or £40 respectively.

I will have a meeting with the student and parent(s) before tuition starts, in order to determine the student`s needs and to plan the first and subsequent sessions. This meeting also serves to break the ice with the student to dispel any anxieties they may have about the tutorial sessions. I have found this to be a good way to start off with a new student. There is of course no charge for this meeting.

I have recently received this compliment from the mother of one of my ex-students:

"As promised, I am contacting you to let you know how D**** got on with his A levels as I thought you might like to be aware of the fruits of your labour!

D**** got an A* for maths and an A for further maths. He also got a A for Physics so he has the grades to study his course of choice - He starts in around a month’s time.
