Highly experienced (> 1500hrs tutoring, > 4000hrs teaching) full-time tutor and qualified teacher of English. After graduating from the University of Cambridge with a BA in English Literature, I taught and lectured at undergraduate summer schools, and then worked as a teacher for three years in comprehensive schools in Cambridge and Lincoln. While working in the latter I graduated from the Teach First Leadership Development Programme, gaining my PGCE from Nottingham University. I was heavily involved in local educational initiatives and the provision of professional development opportunities for other teachers. I was the English department literacy representative for the school, and developed strategies to aid the cross-curricular teaching of literacy.

I am passionate about my subject and aim to share my enjoyment of English with my tutees. Through developing a solid knowledge base, and then embedding skills through practice, questioning and a tailored and well planned curriculum, I aim to produce accelerated progress in all my students.

Teach First Ambassador

I have taught at all levels from KS2 to undergraduate for over 6 years, with 3 years of experience as a secondary teacher at comprehensive schools in Cambridge and Lincoln. I have also taught at a private London sixth form. I am an Ambassador of the Teach First Leadership Development Programme.

I have excellent knowledge, and experience, of all major exam boards. I have prepared many students for A-level, IB, GCSE and 11+ Exams. I have coached students through coursework, advised and tutored undergraduate and postgraduate students and taught English as a second language in the City of London and for IELTS. My GCSE results in the last 3 years were 100% grades 7-9, A-level results were 100% A-A*; in recent years I have successfully prepared students for entrance exams including Latymer School, Harrow, St Paul’s School and King’s College School. My students have gone on to study at Oxford, Cambridge and Columbia Universities among many others. I also teach advanced writing skills to professionals in law, academia and business.
