Information about Jorge

Hello. My name is Jorge and I`m from Mexico City. I have lived in Stockport since 2006.

I did a PhD in computer science at Bristol University, in the areas of parallel architectures and parallel operating systems. My supervisor David H.D. Warren was a leading figure in Prolog and Computer Architecture. He was an excellent supervisor who helped me master the skill of writing theses and research papers. My BSc and MSc are also in computer science, in the areas of operating systems and compilers.

I enjoy teaching and problem solving. I`m a perfectionist, good listener, patient and respectful of people`s experiences and abilities. Well read and travelled.

Willing to travel: 10 miles

Experience: My last job as a lecturer and researcher in computer science spanned over 20 years. I have published over 40 papers and supervised 23 MSc theses and 4 PhD theses in various subjects including parallel and distributed computing, e-Learning, Web systems, and software architecture, among others.

As a research associate at Manchester University (March 2017 - Nov 2018), within the project DISRUPT (www.disrupt-project.eu/), I investigated the design of service-oriented architectures for Internet of Things (IoT) systems in manufacturing based on the reference architectures IIRA and RAMI4.0.
- IIRA: Industrial Internet Reference Architecture by the Industrial Internet Consortium: www.iiconsortium
- RAMI4.0: Reference Architecture Model Industrie 4.0 by the Platform Industrie 4.0: www.plattform-i40.de/I40/Navigation/EN/Home/home.html

This research resulted in this publication:
- Jorge Buenabad-Chavez et al. Towards a Methodology for RAMI4.0 Service Design. ES2018: 6th International Conference on Enterprise Systems, Limassol, Cyprus, October 1-2, 2018.

Prior to my academic jobs, I worked as software engineer developing administrative systems (accounting, budget control, finance reports, etc.) and embedded and control systems that, running on a PC, controlled electronic equipment through the serial port (the forerunner of the USB).

I have developed applications in these programming languages: C, Basic, Cobol, Fortran, Assembly language, Linux Bash Shell, Awk, Haskell, Python, Matlab, Make, SQL, PHP, Javascri pt, JQuery, Java.

I have used these software/platforms: Linux, Windows, VMware, Virtual Box, Hadoop-MapReduce, Hive data warehouse (atop Hadoop), MySQL, PosgreSQL, Moodle, Netbeans, Eclipse, SVN, GIT, Latex, Word, Excel, Power Point.

I am currently developing data science skills with Python and its ecosystem.
