Information about Ruth
Are you struggling with math`s or Religious Education? Are you lacking confidence in your ability? Do you need a boast before an upcoming exam or need a refresher for the course/job you are about to start? Then I may be the tutor for you!
Having spent over 20 years working in education and 25 years in voluntary youth work; my tuition is very student centered, starting where the student is at and tailoring tuition to the individual students needs. My aim with all my students to bring them to a greater understanding of math`s or religious education whilst also having a greater confidence in their own ability.
My own Mathematical knowledge was gained studying at Carmel College for Mathematics and Further Maths A-levels, before studying for a Mathematics and Education degree at the University of Liverpool and then a Secondary Mathematics PGCE at Edge Hill University.
I have a genuine love of Mathematics and problem solving, enjoying the challenge of working with numbers, and try to pass this on to my students.
Having had a faith my whole life and a desire to learn I have l taught myself a lot about world religions but especially Christianity and am currently studying to become a church minister. This lead to me spending some of my career as a head of RE and PSHE.
As a tutor I am kind, approachable, patient and reliable, believing that nothing is to much trouble for my students regardless of level of study or age. I love learning and want my students to as well.
Availability: Tutoring is my full time job so I have lots of availability depending on students availability and bookings already in my diary.
Willing to travel: 8 miles
Experience: I have around 10 years experience of being a 1-1 tutor, for KS1 - KS4 students, including GCSE and functional skills tuition, as well as experience of teaching adults completing adult numeracy courses, needing a refresher or sitting Key Skills tests.
I taught Mathematics, Religious Education and PSHE in a state secondary school for 15 years and was involved with the careers and work related learning for a further 5 years. However, as many students keep in touch with me I have gone on to help them and their families continue to improve their mathematical ability. Given this experience and my voluntary experience of working with 5 - 11 year olds, I am confident in teaching any age child through to adult up to GCSE level or equivalent.
In my years teaching and tutoring I have had quite a lot of SEND experience and have taught students of all ability levels with additional needs.
I also have experience of building confidence in students and raising aspirations.
