Hannah

Hi! My name is Hannah and I teach AS and A level Psychology at Peter Symonds College, Winchester. I have worked in this role for 3 years, full time and I am also a personal tutor. Prior to gaining my teaching qualification, I worked as a cover supervisor in the science faculty of a comprehensive secondary school. I am available for short or long-term tutoring in AS and A Level Psychology, including the 2015+ linear course which is about to be introduced to lower sixth students. I teach the AQA A specification, both the new linear course at AS Level and the older specification at AS and A level.

I hold responsibility for Psychology and Social Science based UCAS applications and Extended Project Qualifications within my department and am happy to tutor in UCAS preparation, personal statement writing, mock interviews and EPQ guidance.

I take a positive approach to tutoring, adapting work and teaching methods to a pupil`s learning strengths, which I believe makes learning challenging material easier and more enjoyable. I believe in inquiry based learning, encouraging students to take responsibility for forming their own opinions based on acquired knowledge.

I find setting short term, challenging goals which students agree are attainable, to be very effective as well as helping pupils to analyse and evaluate their work to set future goals and help them to be more proactive in planning their lessons. Overall, I feel strongly about equipping pupils not simply with knowledge, but with the skills to help them feel confident in learning independently in the future both in formal education at school and beyond.

Experience: I have worked as a full-time, AS/A Level Psychology teacher at a large, state sixth-form college for 3 years. I teach the AQA A specification to class sizes of up to 27 students. I currently have 9 classes and an upper sixth tutor group and hold departmental responsibility for Psychology and Social Sciences based UCAS applications and Extended Project Qualifications.
Prior to this role, I have worked in a state comprehensive school in Hampshire as a Cover Teacher. Here, I taught classes of up to 30 pupils, aged between 11 and 18 across a range of subjects, on a supply basis. I frequently worked with children on an individual basis and am experienced in dealing with young people with special educational needs, including dyslexia, dyspraxia, physical disabilities, the autistic spectrum and in particular, adolescent boys with ADHD.
I have also gained work experience at an outstanding independent school in Southampton. I have a full, up to date CRB certificate.
