Information about Daniel
I am 26 years old, originally from Cheshire and I am currently a PhD candidate in the school of history at Queen Mary, University of London.
I attended my local comprehensive and sixth form, where I gained A grade A-levels in history, French, English literature and a B in Physics. I then went on to study modern history and modern languages (French) at Oriel college, Oxford, where I gained a first.
After graduating from Oxford in 2010, I worked for two years in digital marketing for a luxury fashion company, before deciding to re-enter academia. I gained an MPhil (with distinction) in modern European history from Selwyn college, Cambridge in 2012. I accepted an Arts and Humanities Research Council scholarship to begin doctoral study at Queen Mary`s school of history in the same year. My current research centres on social movements in France in the 1970s.
Availability: I have a flexible schedule. I am available generally available in the evenings and on weekends. Weekdays can also be arranged.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: During my time as an undergraduate, I spent a year abroad teaching English in France in 2008-9. I worked across two schools at "collège" level (11 - 15 years old). At one of the establishments I taught half-classes with a focus on speaking and vocabulary learning. As these were larger groups, the emphasis was on bringing English to life with native-language sources. At the second school, I was integrated within the special needs department, where I taught children with varying needs individually or in groups of two. In these sessions, I worked with the pupils` main English teacher to work on areas of weakness or incomprehension, helping them to both build skills and confidence that they could take back to the classroom.
In 2010 I assisted at a week-long Sutton Trust summer school for state school pupils who aspired to apply to Oxford in the coming year. During this time I led discussion sessions on lectures that had been given, and marked essays and gave mock "tutorial" sessions to the attendees.
