Information about Gareth

I am currently studying Design Engineering at Imperial College London, previously I studied at Ysgol Bro Pedr in West Wales where I obtained 4 A levels - A* in Mathematics, A in Further Mathematics, A in Design & Technology and a B in Physics.

My various roles within Scouting have given me a number of responsibilities through volunteering. I’ve become a leader for the young people and inspired them as a role model. As chairman of the Scouts Wales Youth Council I’ve gained many skills such as team work, organisation, communication and confidence in the skill of public speaking. My latest role in Scouting involved being part of a UK wide team supporting and running a UK event, YouShape, which enabled me to interact with a wide variety of people ensuring their voices were heard. Scouting has enabled me to develop problem solving skills by thinking on a broader scale, along with my mathematical and scientific mind which are skills that are integral to ensuring that any student understands different topics.

Having completed my Bronze, Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award I am now working towards completing my Queen’s Scout Award. These awards have given me the ability to work well as part of a team in various situations but also to develop leadership skills. In my spare time I also play the piano, and I’ve recently achieved grade 6. This challenged my independent learning skills as the necessities of the grade requires many hours of practice. By playing rugby at school, club, county and regional Scarlets West and Scarlets Summer Academy, it has given me the skill to make snap decisions under immense pressure and enhanced my communication skills.

Availability: My availability spans the evenings after 4pm generally. I am willing to work weekends as well so long as they`re pre-planned.

Willing to travel: 10 miles

Experience: My previous experience of tutoring involved unofficial tutoring of my classmates in and outside of class, I also occasionally tutored some of my scouts when they needed additional help with mathematics.

However, within Scouting I have done a large amount of tutoring in non-academic subjects. One of the main topics of tutoring is map reading and being able to navigate without the use of a GPS.
