Information about Valerie
I`ve taught in seconday schools and sixth form colleges - state and private - teaching mostly Biology to GCSE and A level. I`ve worked for various exam boards for around 20 years, helping to set and mark GCSE and A level Biology exam papers - so I know what examiners are looking for and can help with exam technique. My job titles have included Head of Biology, Head of Science, Director of Studies, Head of Sixth Form, Acting Deputy Head and Assistant Principal. I also work occasionally as a school inspector. To succeed in exams, it`s not just about knowing the facts, it`s about writing an answer in the way that will get you maximum marks - and I actively help students to learn "exam technique" as well as subject knowledge. I have enhanced DBS clearance.

Experience: As well as Biology, I`ve also taught GCSE combined science, and A level Critical Thinking, Psychology also IB Biology and Theory of Knowledge. My academic qualifications include 11 O levels, 4 A levels, an 2:1 honours degree in Biological Sciences with subsidiary Chemistry, a PGCE in Education and another in School Inspection and Improvement. I`ve also worked with thousands of sixth form students on their university applications.

Valerie has been a great support to my daughter who is in her first year of A levels. My daughter finds Valerie easy to engage with and learns so much in every lesson. Valerie asks ahead of the session what my daughter would like to cover so that lessons can be tailored to her specific requirements, this has helped immensely as something learnt at school can be better explained by Valerie which helps cement the knowledge. Valerie also kindly sends appropriate resources so that my daughter has reference points but also great revision material. I`m so pleased we have found Valerie to support my daughter with her biology studies.

Val is a great tutor! She has tons of experience in teaching, tutoring and even marking exams. The lessons with her are always interesting and she provides you with all the practice materials you need to pass the exam.

Val is a great teacher with lots of experience and an amazing personality. Val helped me prepare for AS Biology this year as I was struggling with it at school and my predicted grade jumped from a C to an A! My lessons with her were lively, up to a very high standard and Val was always there on time. I genuinely enjoyed studying with Val, so if you want to get the top grades by working smart and not hard Val is the person to contact :)

Valerie has been tutoring our daughter for a few weeks now with Biology A level. Valerie is a fantastic tutor, she explains concepts clearly and has excellent subject knowledge, along with giving helpful tips on exam techniques. Valerie is an excellent tutor. We feel lucky to have found her. She has an incredible depth of knowledge regarding subject matter, exam technique and A Level Syllabus structure. She provides shared screen presentations to discuss different topics which really bring Biology to life. She uses great analogies to relate some of the more technical aspects back to real life scenarios. She is really encouraging and nurturing and has a terrific sense of humour making the lessons fun and enjoyable. Our Son has made very good progress in his A Levels and his marks have increased by a couple of levels. I would thoroughly recommend Valerie to anyone. She is a superb tutor. Thank you!
