I teach drawing and painting in their widest forms. I see myself very much as a facilitator and want my learners to actively enjoy their sessions. I firmly believe that if a student is relaxed and happy they will make brilliant work and be keen to learn more.
Willing to travel: 15 miles
Experience: I am a practising artist and arts educator. I have an MA in Drawing (2003) and practice and exhibit regularly, as well as freelancing, teaching drawing and painting to different clients. I have been teaching since 2000.
Currently, I am tutoring with The Independent Art School and Young Artist. I see my role very much as a facilitator and enabler, and strongly believe that if a student enjoys their session then they will also create great work and learn enthusiastically. I have been closely involved with The Campaign for Drawing, championing both The Big Draw for many years, and their education arm, promoting drawing across the curriculum. My most rewarding sessions are working with children and adults who are suddenly liberated from proper drawing and painting into a process based, open ended enquiry.
I have also been a recipient of an Arts Council Individual Artist Award, for a residency studying the English landscape at Forty Hall, Enfield, in conjunction with the London Borough of Enfield. The residency culminated in a solo show, a book of the drawings I made during the residency, and a toolkit for the public for use in depicting the landscape at Forty Hall.
I have taught adults at many different venues including: Central St Martins Foundation, Kingston University, Chisenhale Studios and for London Drawing and The Independent Art School. I have also taught at many primary schools and after school clubs, as well as private tutoring with secondary school aged students, for The Tutors Group, De Silva Tutors and Young Artist.
