Information about Simon
I love Politics. I`m a full on Political nerd who keeps up to date with all the current affairs. My aim is to make the connections between what is happening the world and the subject content that I teach. By doing so it helps to make politics a living subject that is both academic and real.
I like to teach in an interactive way that combines debates, discussion with a digital approach. By using weblinks we can see the news stories that relate directly to the subject content to help hit the AO1/2 parts of the course.
It`s also so important that A-level politics students form their own views on how well the system works. This helps them score higher AO3 but also helps them form the important synoptic links which are needed in paper 2.
I teach US politics not global and anarchism over feminism. However, I`m happy to read up if you have a particular unit I haven`t done before.
I`m currently a Head of Politics in a private girls school but was previously Head of Politics in a large state school in Hertfordshire. I`ve been teaching for over 12 years and have a wide range of experience with all kinds of students.
Other interests include video games, board games, playing the piano, military fitness and stupid jokes.
Availability: Variable. Would love to do some intense tutoring over the holidays but also happy to see regular students on week day evenings or the occasional weekend session.
If doing tutoring in person then either 2 hours to make the journey worthwhile or an hour in person and an hour of essay marking and detailed feedback throughout the week.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: See above. Highly experienced teacher, Head of Politics and examiner. Old enough to be experienced. Young enough to relate to students well.
