Information about Lauren
I am friendly and professional with a wealth of experience from teaching and tutoring students in Northumberland, Newcastle and South Tyneside. I tailor my teaching to the student, finding out how they learn best, as well as offering new suggestions/support when it comes to revision techniques to best prepare students for their exams. My tutoring has a real focus on maths skills and exam technique, as this is often where students struggle most, so involve lots of exam question practice.
I studied Applied Biology at Newcastle University before graduating and completing a PGCE in Secondary Science, specialising in Biology in 2011. I have a keen interest in Biology, in particular biological molecules, cell biochemistry and genetics.
I have 9 years experience as a biology teacher - I have taught and tutored students completing AQA A level biology for 8 years, as well as gaining some experience tutoring students completing the OCR and Salters specifications.
I have taught AQA GCSE biology for 6 years and have marked formal exams for AQA for the last 3 years - giving me a key insight into exam technique. I currently teach GCSE Biology following the Edexcel specification, and have tutored iGCSE on the same exam board.
Availability: Weekday evenings and Sunday afternoon/evening
Willing to travel: 12 miles
Experience: I have 7 years experience as a Biology teacher, and have taught AS/A level biology for the last 6 years.
I also have experience teaching the new EDEXCEL specification of GCSE Biology, and have been an exam marked for AQA GCSE papers for 3 years, having taught AQA separate Biology at GCSE for 4 years.
I worked at the International Centre for Life as a Science Explainer for 5 years, delivering live science shows and workshops to students of all ages including PCR labs to Sixth Form students from across the North East and MSc students from Newcastle University. I worked closely with the British Science Association and colleagues in the Centre for Life to produce and run activities for British Science Festival and Makers Fair for 4 years running.

Sorry this has taken a while to leave. Our daughter was nervous about her biology GCSE, which was likely ot let-down an otherwise strong set of results. We found Lauren through Tutor hunt and probably had between 6 and 10 2 hour sessions in the run-up to the exams. Our daughter progressed from a mocks-based predicted B/C to an A* when the results came out. Very happy to recommend - nice style and close-enough in age ot relate to teenagers well

Just wanted to say a big thank you to Lauren. She was an amazing tutor, she was professional, always on time and very supportive. She would always take her time in explaining anything I didnt understand and made sure I had plenty of exam questions and revision sheets to complete. Honestly, I dont think I could have done as well as I had done in my Biology exam without her help. I would 100% recommend Lauren as a tutor.

Lauren did about 10 sessions with our daughter last year at our house (including a free first double lesson). Our daughter went from worrying about whether she would get an A for Biology to achieving an A* result and her confidence with the material noticeably jumped. Very happy to recommend Lauren for those thinking about getting some help.

Lauren has done a few sessions with our daughter now and things seem to be going well. Reliable, punctual, organised - turns up with materials, includes exam type questions within the sessions to test understanding. Daughter says she`s benefitting.
After getting contact details Lauren popped round one sunday to get to now our daughter, confirm exactly which syllabus and exam board and identify topic areas -spent about 45 mins with our daughter.
Next week she did almost two hours (we`d asked for 90 mins) - daughter was very happy, then when I went to pay she said "first session is free" - I`d assumed that was the 45 minute chat. We`ve continued with 90 min or 2 hr sessions and will do more in the run-up to the exam.
i`ll post another review in August when we see the results - but very positive so far. Recommended.
