Information about Lauren
I am friendly and professional with a wealth of experience from teaching and tutoring students in Northumberland, Newcastle and South Tyneside. I tailor my teaching to the student, finding out how they learn best, as well as offering new suggestions/support when it comes to revision techniques to best prepare students for their exams. My tutoring has a real focus on maths skills and exam technique, as this is often where students struggle most, so involve lots of exam question practice.
I studied Applied Biology at Newcastle University before graduating and completing a PGCE in Secondary Science, specialising in Biology in 2011. I have a keen interest in Biology, in particular biological molecules, cell biochemistry and genetics.
I have 9 years experience as a biology teacher - I have taught and tutored students completing AQA A level biology for 8 years, as well as gaining some experience tutoring students completing the OCR and Salters specifications.
I have taught AQA GCSE biology for 6 years and have marked formal exams for AQA for the last 3 years - giving me a key insight into exam technique. I currently teach GCSE Biology following the Edexcel specification, and have tutored iGCSE on the same exam board.
Availability: Weekday evenings and Sunday afternoon/evening
Willing to travel: 12 miles
Experience: I have 7 years experience as a Biology teacher, and have taught AS/A level biology for the last 6 years.
I also have experience teaching the new EDEXCEL specification of GCSE Biology, and have been an exam marked for AQA GCSE papers for 3 years, having taught AQA separate Biology at GCSE for 4 years.
I worked at the International Centre for Life as a Science Explainer for 5 years, delivering live science shows and workshops to students of all ages including PCR labs to Sixth Form students from across the North East and MSc students from Newcastle University. I worked closely with the British Science Association and colleagues in the Centre for Life to produce and run activities for British Science Festival and Makers Fair for 4 years running.
